High Five for Friday

Happy, happy Friday!  I spent most of the week playing catch-up from my New Orleans trip.  What a great time we had..I tried to talk Marcie into staying longer, but she needed to get home.  I guess I did too, but it felt so good to get away.  Mom trips are always much needed.  I am freaking out a little since I don't have any set in stone plans until later in the year....later as in Fall and Winter.  What in the world am I going to do?  I.must.travel!  I have a few weekend trips I've been talking about, but other than that it looks like I will spend a whole lot of weekends at the lake house.  That's what's in the budget for now, and honestly there is nothing at all wrong with the lake...it's beautiful, fun, it's only about an hour away, and you have an entire lake to play on! What more could you ask for?

Here are the highlights from my week...

Trey was out of school, and I was off work Monday for Presidents Day.  I had an appointment with my Rheumatologist so we went to Nashville early that afternoon and made a day of it.  I got an excellent report...my Lupus is still in remission (whoop), and I have lost eight more pounds!!  I rewarded myself by going to the cupcake shop.  It was well deserved, and well worth it.

I picked up a new polka dot scarf at Marshalls in Mandeville, Louisiana.  It's my new favorite.  You can't go wrong with polka dots. Mixed patterns are HUGE this season, so you can pretty much get away with wearing polka dots with anything...including stripes or patterns.

I got my hair did Wednesday.  A fresh new cut, and a root touch-up.  I love the way my hair feels immediately after a good haircut, and the next day is guaranteed to be a good hair day.

I forgot how much I love need my Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum.  The product I have been using all winter was beginning to make my hair too soft, and anyone that has super soft hair knows that you can't do much with it style wise.  I made a huge mistake and took the "too soft" product to nola with me, and nothing else except my root up-lifter and some hair spray.  I had major hair issues.  Major!  My hair does not like humidity, and it was much worse there than at home.  I knew this beforehand, so I'm not certain why I didn't pack my frizzy hair products.  That's what happens when you pack hours before you leave.  Once I got home I had had enough of the "too soft" mess.

So, I looked through my hair products....which looks like this...

You can get a similar storage rack for less than $30.00 at any HomeGoods store, Kirklands, or a Hobby Lobby type place. It's the perfect bathroom accessory to keep your counters clear..Mine hangs on the wall beside my vanity.

Back to the product...I found my Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum hiding behind everything else.  It is a life saver for my hair. It leaves your hair smooth, shiny, and frizz free in any weather.  I'm preaching it because it's seriously the stuff!

Sinister came out on DVD this week.  Have you seen it?  I love scary movies, like I get super excited about them.  Something about an elevated heart rate, screaming, and jumping out of my skin is the kind of adrenaline rush I crave.  So, when Brittney told me about it after seeing it in the theater I knew it was one I couldn't miss.  I watched it Wednesday night.  I always end up watching scary movies alone at home because Kyle is a fraidy cat. It was creepy...it had creepy children and a boogie man named Mr. Boogie.  I don't make this stuff up, people, that's what his name was in the movie.  Needless to say I watched in horror...I wonder what goes through the minds of the people that write this stuff?  Sometimes I think it gives crazy people even crazier ideas.  Midway through the movie I paused it to go make sure all the doors in the house were locked...turning each and every light on along the way.  I was skeered!  Creepy children are creepy.  I slept with the lights on.  I'm not afraid to admit that sometimes I'm scared of the dark and occasionally have to sleep with a light on.  If you like scary movies, it's a good one!

Being big busted makes it difficult to find a good sports bra.  I wear a DDD, so if you have trouble finding one that fully supports you and holds everything in place, while still being comfortable, I would try Old Navy's padded sports bra.  If you are much larger I don't think it will work.   Right now they are on sale from 7.99-12.00.  Having a great bra to workout in makes the world of a difference.  Even if you're not busty I would recommend these.  I pretty much love everything in Old Navy's active line.  Super cute, comfy and trendy.

That's my week in a nutshell.  How was your week?

What color is your cape?

Hey there. You know how I mentioned in weeks past how the weeks went by at a turtles pace?  I blinked and this week was over.  Work was busy, then I had meetings, dentist appointments. Then my dog got sick.  Everything pretty much stopped at my dog getting sick.  I couldn't sleep at night waking up every few hours to make sure he was still alive.  I had a nightmare that I got bit by a snake.  If you missed this post from a few months ago..it will explain a lot.  So, I woke up screaming and trying to get this ugly, mean snake to get it's razor sharp teeth out of my arm.  There was no snake, clearly.  I hate snakes, clearly.  I took Winston to the vet.  Figured he had a bad case if indigestion or something.  The young doctor seemed very concerned.  I couldn't swallow from the lump in my throat.  They did an ultrasound, and found that his gallbladder is three times the normal size.  By now I am sitting down, and trying to mask the fact that I can barely breathe, and still cannot swallow. They drew blood, and sent it off overnight.  I barely slept.  Of course the good doctor calls the next morning while I am in a meeting.  I knew he would.  I waited until my meeting was over to call him back.  Sweet young guy, nice looking, even gave me his home number to call if I needed him throughout the night.  The good doctor.  Long story short, Winston will live.  I really don't know what is wrong with him.  He has an enlarged gallbladder.  Maybe he got it from his Mom, or his Dad, but he's got it. Poor Winston. He now has to be on a prescription diet, and should not have bones or treats for a while.  I asked the good doctor what kind of healthy treats I could give him.   Winston is smart and he knows that if I say a word, just one word, he knows he is getting a treat.  I can't disappoint him, and not give him a treat.  I spent 30 minutes in the produce section trying to pick the best looking organic fruits and veggies to try out as our new treats.  I should have been home packing for my trip, which was in less than 12 hours, but nope.  I was picking produce.  Turns out Winston likes apples, but only if they are peeled, and chilled.  He will not eat them at room temperature.  Can we say spoiled.  So, guess what I did?  Peeled the apple, cut it into bite sized Winston pieces, and put them away in the crisper drawer.  Finally at 8:00 last night I got my suitcase from the attic and packed.  I am minorly...ok majorly concerned with leaving my dogs without adult supervision.  Yeah, my husband will be here, but Winston has to have certain foods, at certain times, and apples as treats. Kyle still has doubts as to where we keep the glasses...even the Tupperware sometimes.  He goes to the wrong cabinet often, and every time I look at him and say "lived here long?"  So, now I'm just supposed to pack up and leave my dog and his giant gallbladder at home with this guy? I am starting to feel this lump swell up in the back of my throat.  I'm all packed and ready, and the wheels are up in 3 hours, so I guess I better suck it up, hang up my big blue cape I've been wearing with the big fat A on the front of it.  You know...Anxiety girl...A for anxiety.  Yerp, that's me.  Jumping to the worst conclusions at all times. Wish me luck...I mean wish Winston luck...heck wish Kyle luck too.  Mama's leaving.

High Five for Friday

Helleur Friday!  It's been awhile..a week to be exact.  A week that feels like it lasted for not one, but two weeks. This Mama is ready for a vacation...but I have to wait another week..

In case you forgot - like I always do - and you've been carrying around Old Navy coupons since Christmas it's now safe to use them...as of yesterday.  They expire Feb 6, so if you've got em, go use em (in-store only) I have been in the store and online browsing...they have some super cute new stuff.

This week I climbed into the attic, and brought down a tote full of old pics.  I was looking for my old cross country team pics, softball pics, pics of my first car, and my HS graduation.  Trey has been asking about my first car, and I found the pictures in the tote.  He made fun of it.  Ha!  I loved that car.  So what if it was a 1987 Honda Accord with the flip up headlights...it was cool back then!  I found a lot of old memories buried in that box.  Pictures of my prom, high school days, college days, baby pictures of Trey, and old pictures of my family. Pictures of me with some girlfriends that are no longer here.  It made me smile, and wonder what they would be doing if they had not been taken from this earth so soon.  Thank goodness for totes full of old pictures..sometimes it's nice to reminisce.  Sometimes it's nice to be reminded just how far you have come.

In the said tote of pictures I chose a picture of Nicole and I for throwback Thursday. This picture was taken 11 years ago on my 25th birthday. Trey was a month short of being three years old.  I would have never remembered the day if it weren't for a few other pics in the same pile..I was blowing out the candles on the birthday cake Nicole made me, along with the super sweet card she gave me.  This girl and I have been friends for a long time, and I adore her! Oh, and apparently I'm a hoarder and I keep everything...don't judge.

After sending her the pic this is the convo we had.

Last weekend Trey tried out for a youth archery league sponsored by a gun and archery shop in town. We spent the afternoon shooting his bow.  I always forget how much I like using a bow until I get my hands on one, then I could spend hours shooting it.  Surprising myself with each target hit, and thinking I'm actually pretty good at it.  I'm glad my boy has cool hobbies and that he lets me tag along and play with him.

After archery I took off to meet up with a friend for some shopping...I don't know how we ended up back at the martini bar clear across town <she says so innocently> but we did..  Too many glasses of wine impaired my judgement to not answer a FaceTime call...and I got busted at the bar..not shopping..

I picked up some new shades at Target.  I have wanted some aviator style glasses for.for.ever.  I randomly try them on anytime I spot a pair, and they all look ridiculous.  I tried these on, and they worked, so now they're mine.  You know.. since I needed another pair of sunglasses.

I tried out a new do that Kate from The Small Things Blog shared with her readers.  It's called - easier than it looks up-do tutorial.  It really was a lot easier than it looked, and it stayed all day long.  Easy as in it took me about 10 minutes to get it done, although mine looked nothing like hers.  It was perfect for a Sunday that I did not want to wash my hair before church, but I wanted something other than a ponytail.  You should try it.

Thanks for stopping by to read about my week.  I hope you have a fun weekend, and eat lots of yummy football food for Super Bowl Sunday.  My wheels have been turning planning my football menu! What will you be making?
